All our training is one-2-one sessions out riding with one of our Motorcycle Observers. Observers are Advanced Members who have undertaken additional training as mentors.
Observed rides typically last 60-90 minutes with breaks to chat about each section of the ride and what you might want to be practicing (and coffee).
At the end of each ride you get a written assessment on about a dozen different dimensions so you can see how you are progressing.
Typically rides are once every one to two weeks at mutually convenient times/locations.
Your Observer will suggest what to focus on before the next ride.
The number of rides required to get to Advance Test Standard obviously varies depending on a number of factors, but 8-10 is common.
Once you and your Observer feel you have reached test standard you will often go for a ride with another Observer as a quality check and also to give you some experience of a "mock test". You are then ready for the Advanced Test.
The Advanced test itself is very like one of the Observed Rides except the observer is replaced by an IAM Examiner.
Examiners are typically Police Advanced Riders. They are looking for the same things as your observer was.
We have an "Associates Charter" that sets out how we mutually work together to get you up to Advanced Test standard. Please have a read of our charter before signing up so you understand the commitment you are making.
We also hold optional evening meetings during the winter on interesting driving/riding topics that enable you to meet and talk with other associates and full members.
All of the above is available for £215 - this includes your course material, a year's IAM membership, a year's membership of the Forth Valley group, your exam fee - and as many riding sessions as you need.

If you are not sure if this is for you, why not try one session free with one of our observers. It will give you a sense if you like our approach and you will get a written assessment of a number of aspects of your riding (especially if you buy the observer a coffee!).
